Dear Alaska Educator,
The Alaska Department of Education & Early Development (EED) is recruiting educators from across the state to participate in Standards Setting to establish the achievement levels of the Alaska Measures of Progress (AMP) assessment in grades 3 - 10 for English language arts and mathematics. The Standards Setting sessions will be held in Anchorage on July 7-10, 2015. Panelists must participate in person. Panelists’ travel to and from Anchorage will be covered in addition to lodging, $60/day per diem, and, a stipend of $100 per day if the educator is not on contract during that time. Expenses, stipends, and per diem will be paid by the Achievement and Assessment Institute (AAI).
In addition, EED will be selecting a portion of the Standard Setting group to participate in an additional Alignment activity tentatively scheduled for one day during the first week of June in Anchorage. If you are unable to attend this additional activity it will not affect your eligibility to participate in the Standard Setting group.
AMP are the new, computer-based assessments for grades 3-10 that align with the Alaska English Language Arts and Mathematics Standards. AMP is a custom, Alaska assessment developed by the Achievement & Assessment Institute (AAI) and administered to Alaska students in grades 3-10 for the first time in spring 2015. The Standards Setting panels will make considered judgments about achievement levels based on assessment responses. To be effective as a Standards Setting panelist, educators must have the ability to work as part of a team and understand consensus development processes. Panelists must have 1) experience teaching in mathematics and/or English language arts at the specified grade levels, and 2) be knowledgeable in the Alaska Standards.
Standard setting panel diversity is essential and EED will select panelists, to the best extent possible, based on the tested student population of Alaska in terms of ethnicity, gender, and regional representation. All grade level panels will include educators with special education and/or LEP experience. Grade level 9 and 10 panels will include post-secondary educators.

Participants will be notified via email if they are selected in order to confirm their availability. Additionally, those not chosen for a panel will receive notification by May 1. Participants will further receive details upon their invitation to serve on a panel and will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement prior to participation. Panelists will receive further details about compensation via e-mail upon selection.
